Highland Road Reservoir (HDR07) – Construction Notice for Cell 2 Draining

The Hamilton Water Division has received a request from Clearway Construction Inc. to extend reservoir draining hours from 7 am to 7 pm to 24 hours a day, for 3 days.  Work is anticipated to be scheduled for 3 days between the dates of April 11 until April 16, 2025. Attached you will find information on what to expect during construction.

City of Hamilton – 2025 Tree Giveaway Program

Each spring, the City of Hamilton’s Forestry Section offers Hamilton residents small native tree or shrub species to plant in their backyards.

Pre-registration is required. One tree or shrub per property, approximately one meter tall, are available. Residents must present a driver’s license or property tax bill upon pick up.

Homeowners are responsible for planting, watering, and maintaining the tree or shrub.

Tree Giveaway events run on April 26th, May 10th, and May 31st, 2025, at Bayfront Park, and May 3rd and May 24th, 2025, at Mohawk College from 8:00am – 12:00pm. Events happen rain or shine.

Property owners can access this information or request a program brochure through the City Contact Center at 905-546-2489 (CITY). Brochures are available at every Municipal Services Center, and a supply is always available for the Ward offices by request.

Blue Box program changes are coming to Hamilton April 1, 2025

Residential Blue Box programs in Ontario are moving to a new collection system that is fully funded and operated by producers of recycling materials. The new collection system will make recycling easier by standardizing what can be recycled across Ontario.

Starting April 1, 2025, Hamilton’s Blue Box program will be operated by Circular Materials Ontario. This includes the collection and processing of blue box materials in Hamilton.

The following properties will have recycling collected by Circular Materials as part of the new blue box program:

  • Low density residential / single family homes
  • Multi-residential properties / apartment buildings
  • Specified non-profit / municipal long-term and retirement homes
  • Specific public spaces, such as parks, playgrounds, sidewalks
  • Public / private schools
  • Residential components of mixed-use buildings

The City of Hamilton will maintain curbside collection of:

  • Garbage
  • Bulk garbage
  • Organics (green bin)
  • Leaf and yard waste, including Christmas trees
  • Recycling collection from businesses
