Do not use bare hands to distribute candy on Halloween.Social distance candy distributer from children by using tongs or even a candy slide like this creative gentleman did.
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is encouraging residents to stay home and celebrate Halloween in different ways this year. Avoid attending parties/gatherings with others who live outside your household to limit the spread of COVID-19.
If you are handing out candy this year, follow Public Health measures to stay safe:
Wear a non-medical mask that fully covers your nose, mouth and chin.
Set up a trick or treating station outside, using a table to place treats on to maintain distancing.
Portion treats out ahead of time to prevent contact & use tongs to hand out. Do not leave out self-serve bowls of bulk candy.
If you hand out treats indoors, place a sign on your door asking trick-or-treaters to knock instead of ringing the doorbell.
Wash or sanitize hands frequently.
Stay 2 metres away from trick-or-treaters.
Build a candy slide, candy catapult or other fun, non-touch delivery methods.
If you are trick-or-treating this year, follow Public Health measures to stay safe:
Minimize contact with others: trick-or-treat only with those who you live with and stay two metres apart from all others.
Only trick-or-treat outside.
Wash hands before eating candy.
Choose a costume that allows a non-medical mask to be worn underneath and that allows you to easily wash your hands.
Wash your hands before and after trick or treating and bring hand sanitizer with you.
Avoid touching doorbells or railings, knock instead of using doorbells, use hand sanitizer after touching surfaces.
Line up 2 metres apart if waiting for treats.
Outline a plan with older children who are trick-or-treating on their own, including how to avoid situations such as crowded door steps or joining with other groups and talking about the number of homes they can visit.
Remember the usual Halloween safety tips – dress for the weather, wear reflectors, watch for traffic, and check treats before eating
The Valley Park Recreation Centre and Library project includes an addition for new library, and renovation of existing space for expanded recreational programming. The improvements also include upgrades to the mechanical, roof, envelope and parking lot.
Construction began in March 2020 and was unfortunately shut down due to COVID-19. Work was able to resume in May 2020 and is currently ongoing. It is anticipated the project will be complete in fall 2021
I want to acknowledge and thank the Heritage Green Community Trust for investing $1.5 million to the Library for common rooms.
Valley Skate Park will eventually be a wheeled sport facility located within Valley Park. City staff have gathered feedback from the Stoney Creek community on the proposed project through a variety of avenues, including through the Ward 9 Office
The design concept for Valley Skate Park was shared with the community at a public meeting in December 2019. Since then, staff have been working to finalize the detailed designs and find opportunities to maximize the budget.
Originally, it was thought that construction on Valley Skate Park would begin this fall. However, due to pressures from COVID-19 and other impacts, construction has been moved out to approximately February 2021. Pending weather, it is anticipated that the skate park will be open for use by September 2021.
The Mud Street resurfacing project was originally proposed to begin in the summer of 2020. The project is now expected to proceed in 2021 after improved and cost-effective alternatives to the construction process were identified
The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between Paramount Drive and Upper Centennial Parkway, which includes bridge rehabilitation and upgrades to pavement
This project will be tendered in late 2020 with construction proposed to proceed in 2021.
The completion of this project will reduce maintenance costs, extend the life of the pavement and bridge infrastructure, and provide an increased level-of-service to Ward 9 residents and other users of the roadway.
CLINE PARK REDEVELOPMENT
Cline Park is set to receive a number of upgrades and additions, including new playground equipment, a repaved asphalt pathway, paved parking lot with universal accessibility, a new sun shelter, a new drinking fountain, and some new trees.
This project was originally anticipated to be under construction in 2020, however due to delays resulting from COVID-19, the project timeline has been pushed back.
We anticipate the park will be under construction next year and open for use in summer 2021.
As we approach Fall and the popular season of colours, I want to remind folks that the Devil’s Punch bowl Conservation Area is within a Special Enforcement Parking Area wherein there is no parking along 1st Rd East and along Ridge Road.
This special parking enforcement area was implemented after months of illegal parking that was putting pedestrians at risk as they were walking along Ridge Rd. Most of these roads only have a gravel shoulder with little room for pedestrians to walk safely if people park illegally. In addition, we were witnessing frequent stunt driving by motorcycles as well as aggressive driving by cars.
As you can see from the pictures above, the area is well signed to ensure that drivers are well aware of the special parking enforcement area.
If you are visiting Devil’s Punch Bowl, please park in the Conservation Area parking lot. I hope you enjoy the fall colours in Hamilton.
Environment Hamilton is once again helping to monitor outflows to our local creek in Upper Stoney Creek. Juby Lee is co-ordinating the training sessions for anyone interested in the program and learning how to test the waters. See the advertisment below to register as a volunteer.
